The Elements I slammed into the wall head first. I was in the fetal position, with one arm out toward Parker. As i fell, I accidently shot water out of my hand. I got up slowly, still weak. I grabbed my dagger and walked over to Parker. He was on the ground, shivering and soaking wet. His lips were blue, and his eyes closed. "No, no, no, no, no." I muttered under my breath. I knew CPR, but did I really want to kiss my best friend? To save his #life, it wasn't a pleasant thought but to save him, I'd do anything. I checked to see if he was breathing, that was a no. I started doing compressions, putting my hands over his sternum. I counted as i went, and stopped at 60. I tilted his head back, and apologizing silently to Pheonix, put my lips to his, pushing air into his body. I watched his chest go up, then did it again. I started pressing on his chest again, hoping to God that he would respond. I was already tiring. Breaking someone's sternum multiple times in row, isn't exactly a piece of cake. I called out to Dylan, telling her to keep the dragon away. "Kinda hard to do that alone!" She responded. "Would you rather Parker die?" she was silent, except for the clang of her sword on the dragon's scales. After another minute, of which by now I was so exhausted my lungs stung and my arms were sore, my forehead slick with sweat, Parker gasped, water spewing out of his mouth. He moved onto his side and couphed the water back up. I tried to help by controlling the water to come out of him, but i was too tired. The site of him was pitiful. He was curled up, shivering, and at the moment, vomiting. His black hair was plastered to his head, his blue eyes dull. I had never seen him look so weak. I helped him up, and used water to sweep his mess up. "Thanks, Riley ." "No problem. Just don't mention to anyone that I had to kiss you." He wiped his mouth off, a look of fake horror on his face. "Kiss me? Man, why didn't you just let me die?" "Ah, shut up." "Uh, guys? A little help?" "Oh, sure Kenzie." Parker always called Dylan a different name. I had no idea why. I'll have to ask him one day. I grabbed my dagger, and pressed the tiny diamond on the hilt. It immediatley lengthened, turning into my sword. Parker willed his sword over to him, and it slid across the floor, clanging into his hand. I will never get over how he did that. I would give anything to have telekineses. I went around back of the dragon, where it's spike covered tail was sweeping the stone tiles. I dodged, and ducked, jumping over its foot in the process. Dylan was distracting it, darting in and out as a dog while Parker dashed in and stabbed it in weak spots. We had fought together so much, we knew what each one of us did, and what we were going to do. In a minute, Dylan would go under its neck, and Parker would stab it's ear. And sure enough, thats what happened. I jumped on its back, and climbed up its neck, slipping on the pitch black scales. I looked it in it's eye, vivid green with vertical slits for pupils, intending to stab him there, but i looked a second to long. He turned his head and shot fire at me. Today was water for me, so i blasted some ice cold H2O at him, freezing his mouth shut. The fire left a blistering welt on my shoulder, but i should be able to fix that in a couple days. I pried of some of its scales off with my dagger, i had just pressed the diamond again, and slit its neck. It was choking on its blood, and it couldnt cough it up because his mouth was clamped shut with ice. He spluttered, and fell, his head hitting the floor with one final crash. I jumped off, doing a saumersault in the middle, and landed right in front of Dylan. I put my arms around her waist and kissed her once. "I win." I said. Before this, we had made a bet on who would kill the dragon. Thankfully it was a small one, or Parker would've killed it. "I held him off while you were making out with Parker!" she whined. "Hey-" Parker was about to protest, but I interupted. "I still killed him though." "Fine." she grumbled. She brought out her wallet, which was actually exactly like mine, a tri-fold made out of brown leather, and handed me 15 dollars. "Thank you." i sang. I pocketed the money and turned to her once more. Her shoulder length black hair contrasted nicely with her bright gray eyes. "You look beautiful covered in dragon blood." I complimented. "And your cute when you fall in love." she replied. I kissed her again, slower, savoring it. Parker turned around and exclaimed, "Gross guys, no PDA in the lobby!" We both laughed and strolled out, hand in hand. At that moment, Pheonix came out. I used to have a little crush on her, second to Dylan of course, but I knew she was off limits. I mean, she and Parker had started going out only last week. It was obvious they liked each other. But i couldn't resist before. She had pale blond hair and intense blue eyes. She was tall and slim, muscular for a girl. Her personality was awesome. She was oober smart, and funny. She was a good actress too. She put on the dumb-blonde act when she needed to. But anyway, she walked over to Parker and took his hand. They were still figuring things out. Pheonix was touchy, so she had to make all the first moves, and they just looked awkward sometimes, but it was obvious that they loved each other. So she grabbed his hand and said, "You guys had all the fun! I had to keep knocking out the guards. Not fair." She stuck out her lip in a pouty way. "It was a small dragon anyway. Pretty easy to kill." "Not when your back up is behind you making out!" exclaimed Dylan. "Now wait a moment-" I said just as Parker said, "I was dying!" Pheonix gave us a quizzical look, but didnt ask anything. I explained anyway. "I accidently shot water-" "Oh." she said. "Would you stop-" "Nope!" Pheonix was telepathic, and it was SO annoying when she read our minds. "Ugh." I replied. Okay. Your probably confused. I promise this is the only time I'll narrate like this. There are people all around the world with super human abilities. I comtrol the elements. But only one a day. Today, was water. Parker had telekineses, and Pheonix was telepathic, obviously. Dylan was a shapeshifter. We're just normal people. The only thing is we have to kill evil things that normal people wouldn't believe in. This guy, he's named after Hermes because he comes to every Powerful (what we're called) and tells us to get to the bottom of something. He can fly so, thats why he was named Hermes. The only sucky thing was, every century or so, there was on Powerful that got kidnapped by someone, (we dont know who) and there powers were drained from them, and used to make whoever it was that stole them stronger. But that was ONE Powerful a century. I wasn't worried. So, anyway… "What do you think of that Ally, at school?" asked Dylan. "What do you mean?" asked Parker. "She's obviously one of us. I mean, I havn't seen the mark on her, but im sure shes got one." Oh yeah, and each one of us has a unique mark. Its a tattoo, a different place on everyone. It represents what you can do. Mine was four sections, one of fire, one one water, one of floating twigs and leaves to represent air, and one is a stone. The whole thing is in a big circle, so it looks like pie. Its on my right shoulder blade. I didnt know about the others. Your technically not supposed to show anyone, but we didnt care. Some myth said that the person who saw it could take your powers, but that was a myth. "Well if she believes the myth then she wouldnt go shoving it peoples faces would she?" i said. "Good point." she answered. Just a couple of days ago we were captured by 3 evil sorceresses. That's how we got locked in the dungeon down there. Pheonix had slipped out, with Parker using telekineses to open the lock, but it triggered a dragon down there. So she beat up the guards and sorceresses, who were sleeping, and now we were on our way up a spiral staircase to leave. Stuff like this happened all the time.It was a journey that we just got back on. I have to admit though, it was kinda sad to see the blond sorceress go. She was stupid as heck, and really pretty, though i would never tell Dylan that. "Oooh, Riley, you naughty boy." said Pheonix. "What? What's he thinking about?" said Dylan worriedly. I blushed, but Pheonix just looked behind her shoulder in a teasing, 'Im not going to tell you' way and didnt say anything. We finally reached the top, and we made a bee line for a spot of sunshine. We were in the middle of nowhere, in a forest, and it was maybe two in the afternoon. We decided to stay the night here, and leave for home in the morning. We made a fire, unfortunatley i couldnt help, and roasted what looked like squirrell, until we couldnt eat anymore. Then we found some blankets and set them up outside, under a patch of sky. "The stars are so pretty tonight." Pheonix muttered. "I can show you the constellations." offered Parker. He pointed to the sky, tracing some invisible pattern that I couldn't see. "thats the URSA MAJOR. See? Its supposed to be a bear." I felt like I was intruding, so I took Dylan's hand, I led her toward the edge of the woods. "We'll be back in a little bit." "Where are we going?" Dylan asked me. "For a walk in the woods." We were silent then, as we walked in between the trees, getting cought on branches every so often. I wandered up to a river. Just what I was hoping for. "Here." I said. "Why here?" "Because I feel like it's right." I sat her so that she was facing away from the river, but I was facing it. She sat criss cross, with her black Converse on top of both legs. "Your eyes are the most beautiful shade of gray I have ever seen." "And your hair is so cute when it gets in your eyes like that," she reached up to push the thick black hair out of my eyes to the left side of my face. "But your even cuter when I can see your face." I leaned in, as if to kiss her, but instead, I willed the water to make a cushion of warm, dry water that swept her up. "Riley!" She looked mad but sounded elated. "Put me down right now!" "What's the magic word?" I asked teasingly. "NOW!" she yelled, truly having fun now. But instead of putting her down, I jumped up with her, and made it sweep us down stream. We stopped under a weeping willow, getting tangled in the leaf things. "I love you." she said. "I love you too." I answered. She leaned in at the same time I did. We kissed, holding each other in our arms. After a little while we thought we should get back to camp, and Dylan wanted to walk, so we climbed out, slipping on the muddy bank. "Riley?" "Yeah?" "Do you remember when we first met?" "Oh Jeez, how could I forget?" The first time we met, she was the new kid at our school. She was coming back from the teacher's desk, and happened to trip over her foot. I was coming back from sharpening my pecil, and as she was falling I cought her. I wasn't ready for it and it made me off balance. We both fell, me on my back and her on her stomach, on me. "I am SO sorry, I didn't mean to-" "Jeez, Big Foot. What'd you do that for?" "I'm terribly sorry-" She had a look of complete horror on her face. "Dang, girl. Its fine. Everyone has those, 'La la la la la I'm walking, oh! And now I'm falling!' moments." She laughed nervously. We helped each other up, but she winced as she stood. "Ow." she muttered, almost quiet enough for me to not hear. But not quite. "You should get that foot checked out." I noted. "No, I-I'm fine." I went to stand up, (I was in my chair) to help her, but instead I had a moment of vertigo. "Ooh, seems I'm a little dizzy." "You should get that checked out." She mocked. I playfully punched her arm. "Come on. Lets go." Soon, we were in the same ambulance on the way to the hospital. We didn't want to but it seemed like Dylan sprained her ankle and I was having trouble remembering things. We got to the ER and the Doc checked us out, making me stay the night and having Dylan come back tomorow. "Visit me, Duck Feet." "Why should I?" she teased. "So I can see your pretty face again, why else?" "Hm, I'll think about it." Just as she was walking out, she tripped over the door. "Seriously girl! How many times can you trip in one day!?" "More than you would believe." She replied. After that, I was truly starting to warm up to the girl. For a few weeks, we started hanging out. At lunch, in the hallways, in the classes we had together. I eventually worked up the nerve to ask her out, and in reply, she kissed me. "You dont know how long i've waited to do that." She walked away, leaving me shocked, still standing in front of my car. I went home, and thought about her. From then on, everything worked out fine. We found of we were both Powerfuls, and we started living together. (Did I mention? Every Powerful's parents can't raise them. I was raised by my uncle, and her a cousin, and the families understand what has to happen with Powerfuls. They have to live on their own, so they bought us a house. Somewhere in that process we met Parker and Pheonix and they moved in with us, girls in one room guys in the other) But anyway, "How long ago was that?" she asked. I counted the months on my fingers, and was completley shocked. "10 months, 13 days." "Oh!" she exclaimed. "Well. Happy Ten Month-Aversary." "You too Dylan." We walked back, each absorbed in their own thoughts. I was thinking about how long this has been going on. I was amazed. She was my first girlfriend and she still hasnt dumped me. We wandered back to camp, and right before we walked into the clearing, we heard, "Oh! Happy Anniversary!" Ugh. Pheonix. "Pheonix, would you PLEASE,-" "Riley, for you, its like your writing what your thinking on your face. Like your screaming it at me. If i TRIED to not read your thoughts, theyd wind up in my head anyway." "Ugh. Thats so annoying. What if i did this to you all the time?" I then pulled muddy water from the ground, and poured it on her. "Ew! Riley, thats gross! Get it off me!" She started shivering so I obliged, bringing the water out of her clothing and letting it seep into the very dry ground again. "I think its time we all got to sleep now." Parker suggested. "Who made you the boss huh?" I asked playfully. "Oh, you wanna fight, tough guy?" "Well, considering im like 6 inches taller than you, I think i would win." It was true. I was tall and lanky, very skinny, with pitch black hair that covered my dark brown eyes and caramel colored skin. "Yeah? well considering im way buffer," he flexed his biceps while he said it, "and quicker than you, I think i would win." That was also true. He had black hair too, only it was a buzz cut, and electric blue eyes. He was pale, but you could see clearly defined muscles everywhere you looked. He wasnt short compared to normal standards; i was just tall. "Well hes probably right anyway. We should get some sleep." We made our beds, Parker and Pheonix, Dylan and I, but Dylan slept in a different bed. She was a blanket hog, and she didnt know i knew this, but she doesn't like to sleep in human form. Usually its a dog or cat but tonight, she was curled up in something like a squirrel, or similar. We fell asleep, watching the mist around us make shapes in the empty night.
