Elevators, Elves & Little Girls (part 1) Isla was a young girl, forever looking for; what things can do, and as the adults always told her what things can't do. our story unfolds within, (as an eager estate agent would say), "a cozy, open planed, tabula rasa with a view." or a small, single roomed, empty flat, up on the 7th floor as normal people would say. Isla did not mind that her home was on the 7th floor, Isla had a skill, a skill that will serve her very well by the end of this tale, her skill was not only that she was the fastest kid in her class but the fastest kid in her year and this was something she certainly loved, to say Isla was quiet about her achievements wouldn't just be an understatement but absolutely, positively, entirely a lie. she was a gloater and a bragger and a mocker and a taunter and generally a very bad winner. although all this was about to change within a snap of a branch. "daddy I want to go to the park on the way home???" Isla cried as her dad took her home from school. "hurr okay but I do want to get home soon, we've got a lot to do when we get home" her father replied as he gave in and changed direction toward the park. the park had a huge set of ominous dark metal gates, Isla looked up at the gates as she went in, she wasn't scared she was excited, the park was one giant running track with trees... Trees, Isla saw them as skyward tracks, she'd imagine herself running up them, defying gravity, reality, her shoes... of course Isla ran straight to the nearest tree, then straight up it. "be careful!!" her father said trying to shout over the thrashing of broken branches upon the grass, he was too late. Our little girl has always been a ruff and tumble baby until she became a ruff and tumble girl, "are you alright??" asked her dad "YES" she said as she bounced to her feet, then flopped to the floor. "my leg hurts" she said to the ground, her father decided that it was time to go home, so with a lift and a grunt he carried her huffingly home. they got to their block of flats. "argh" her father said "I can't carry you much further, I'm exhausted!" the father looked at the lift "you'll have to go up in the lift" he said "I've never been in a lift before" Isla exclaimed "I'll be with you" her father said Isla started a tantrum the likes of only a child can. "ahhhhhiiiiiiii!!" the father thought, "I know what if it's a race? I'll go up the stairs and you take the lift and we'll see who gets to our floor first.." Isla loved a good race and her father knew this, with a limp and a jump she got in the lift and said "GO!" her father started to run up the stairs. Isla has never used a lift before, she wasn't too sure what to do, she tried talking to it, that didn't work, there were some buttons tho, they must be the floor numbers. the doors closed. "what floor is mine??" before she could press a button the lift started moving, then "DING!". the doors slowly opened but behind them was not a floor in a block of flats like she expected but, a... bookshelf??? she was very confused, was this normal for a lift?? she thought as she reached out for a book and fell forward, into, and tumbled through the bookshelf, but as we already know, Isla was a ruff and tumble girl, and before that a ruff and tumble baby. Isla removed "bridges and beds the dichotomise of house hunting for trolls, by Gorpek Opek" and looked around, she was in a library, a very big library, a very very big library... 'hello?!' she yelled 'shhhhh!' the shhh seemed to come from everywhere at once, then silence fell upon the hallways once again. Isla was scared and really wanted to find her mum, or a friend, or anyone... Isla wondered though the long, rows of bookshelves around her looking at their labels '5673.122a, Magic; Lotions for potions.'. Isla wondered what kind of library this could be when 'OOOFFFF!!', 'shhhhhh!', 'SORRY'. she looked across very slowly, she saw; a very large purple hand with pink pimples, shaggy wide purple arms, a large red checked shirt, a big square chin, and a moving toothy smile... moving! 'HELLO' the mouth said. 'MY NAME IS GARY, NICE TO MEET YOU' he said. 'gary??? that's not very monster'ish?' Isla replied. 'WELL MY MUM AND DAD HAD A LOT OF CHILDREN, THEN RAN OUT OF NORMAL NAMES LIKE, GARGO AND TRAVACORE YEARS AGO.. SO WHAT YOU GONNA DO. - end of part 1 -
