That Girl In The Corner She sat in the corner, tears running down her pale, white cheeks. Her #lifeless eyes stared back at me, as I watched her hug her frail bony knees to her forehead. As I turned to walk away, shocked at what I had just seen, I stopped. My heart was beating rapidly and my breathing was ragged. What had I done? I had ignored a fellow human being. I slowly made my way over to her, edging ever closer, inch by inch. Finally, I was beside her. She looked up from the ground and I saw a look of absolute confusion pass her face. Why had they stopped? I am a nobody!! I started to ask her questions and comforted her while she told me her tale of woe and misfortune. I sat patiently, while she let it all out. Finally, her last tear had been shed. I helped her off her feet, and sent her on her way. I felt good about myself! I had helped her in her darkest hour! 5 years later - It was a dark, stormy night. The road was slick with rain and the trees bent in the wind. The steady beat from the rain and the constant swish of the window wipers was all that was keeping me awake. As my eyes, started to close, my hands began to fall from the wheel. The car veered of the road, slamming head first into a huge oak tree. My mind went blank. My vision blurred as I saw a blinding light and heard a scurry of noises. Then, there was no more. A few weeks later, I was starting physio for my broken leg. I sat in the waiting room, nervously waiting for who my physician would be. My brow furrowed as I read the name on the notice board. Haven't I heard this name before? Then, I heard a familiar voice as they called out my name. I smiled. Never had I thought I would ever meet them again. She helped me with my leg as I exercised and strengthened my muscles. "you know, you saved my #life a few years back," she said, smiling with the memory. "I was going to kill myself that night if you hadn't have came and cheered me up." I stood there, in absolute shock. She would have killed herself, if not for me? "so, I thank you from the deepest parts of my heart. I can now live #life to the full! And some day, I will return the favour!" her face lit up as she said this. Every muscle stretched into a full, toothy grin. I smiled back at her, knowing she meant every single word she had said. As you know, to every story, there is a meaning. This one is extremely simple. Help those you can help. Yes you may be going through troubles of your own, but remember, there will always be someone less fortunate than yourself. So reach out to them, take their hand, and help them through it. Not just because you are forced to or that it's just an obligation, but because you don't know their pain. You don't know what they have been through. So help them. It's no big deal. It's simple. That's all it is!
