The Day To Jump Thundering hooves raced across the field. One stride, two stride and clear, straight over the fallen tree. What power, what strength, what el... "Mary!... Mary, hurry up girl, you're the last one". Mary slowly turned, reluctant to look away from the magnificent creatures they called horses and their riders, having so much fun. 'Why can't I go, what makes them different from me' was a thought Mary had at least once a day. "Come on Mary, I don't know why you are always looking at them, we have work to do". Mary sighed and followed the Man in to the barn. The smell of the farm, that had been in the family for many generations, was of stale straw and of a too full muck heap. Th e barn was old but well maintained and looked after, after all it was the pride of the family this farm. Mary sighed again as she set to work. "What's wrong with Mary today" said the Boy "I think that's the fifth sigh I've heard from her." "I don't know, just leave her be, I'm sure she will brighten up as summer comes, they always do". The Man said, shutting the gate of the barn. 'Final' thought Mary as she raced out of the barn, running back to the fence, where she was that morning. She watched them ever day and knew they where always there first thing in the morning and after work. 'Here they come' she struggled to contain herself as she felt the thunder of hooves before she saw them. Their coats were gleaming as they raced past, though this time they didn't jump the fallen tree, they still looked magnificent. That was Mary's favourite word to describe them, she couldn't think of any thing else, 'magnificent' just 'magnificent'. All too soon they had past and the world around her was quiet, peaceful... Boring. Everyday she goes to work, everyday she watches the horses race past, everyday she wishes to be on the other side of the fence racing with them. She sighed again, time to sleep, time to rest, time to go back to her boring family. Her family was a big one, all did the same thing for generation after generation, made milk. That was it, ever time she mentioned something else it was always 'be quiet Mary', 'stop dreaming Mary', 'just do your job Mary'. She gave up long ago to try and make them see something else, but she, her self, never stopped dreaming. She was flying, the wind pushing past her. She had done it, she was on the other side of the fence racing, everyone was smiling at her. "Go Mary go!!" Shouted the rides, encouraging her towards the fallen tree, "you can make it!" They shouted again, though it seemed more distant now as all she could hear was the wind as the fallen tree approached her. She was going to make it, she was going to fly... "Mary, wake up, your the last one again today" the man was shaking her. "up, up time to work". 'Work, Mary it's time to work, Mary it's time to get up, Mary you need to go to work now' the words where like fire in her mind ' No, not any more, I am the master of my #life and I have had enough of 'work'' she turned towards the fence that she always looked out across... And jumped into a sprint. 'I am going to make it, I am going to fly...' With all her strength she jumped. The Man and the Boy just stared with disbelief of what was happening as they watched as one of their dairy cows leaped in to the air and cleared the fence.
