DRAGON MOUNTAIN Characters: Hondor Mark;captain Vladimir;father;chief James Mike My name is Hondor,and I live on the island of Domar. We used to live on a peaceful island,until the dragons came. My people were unprepared and many of them were killed. Those who survived the attack fled to neighboring islands to only be destroyed by the dragons. Few survivors like my great grandfather went into the mines. They forged weapons and fought against the dragons. Many were unsuccessful in actually killing a dragon. Those who did were honored and given dragon guard. They have been the only ones that have come back alive. Many of the dragon guards go to Dragon Mountain,were the dragons used to sleep in, but they broke their way out and eventually found our villages. As the sun rose over the mountains, the dragon guards set out for Dragon Mountain. As many as two hundred strong set out for the mountains."why can't I go with them father?"I said."because I need you here,in the mines.""but I've been working in the mine since I was seven.""exactly,you are twenty years old and have more experience than anyone in the village, and as your chief,and your father,you will stay here.""yes father." The sun is high over the mountains when the guards returned,and only twelve had returned. "What happened to your men captain?""we were ambushed by a group of dragons,three of them. In the forest north of the mountain "Why won't my father let me go with the guards,I can handle anything that comes at me.fifteen years I've worked in those mines and I still don't get why I can't go."your father is only trying to keep you safe." Said James."yeah,he only wants what's best for you."said mike."I guess your right."said I. Then all of a sudden,a dragon flies through the forest and attacks use ."Mike! Get the swords!"Said I." "Her ! Catch!" Mike threw me a dual blade."thanks,James! Look out! The dragon grabbed my friend and threw him into the air."AAAAAAHHHHHH!""that was the last time I heard his voice. In a furious rage,I jumped and stabbed my sword threw the beasts neck.MMMMOOORRRRR! The beast cried as it fell dead on the ground." Mike! Are you ok! Where's James!" I shout." Over here!" Cried mike. I turn the corner to find mike sitting by James. I pick him off the ground and walked with mike back to the village It was sunset by the time reached the village."where were you? We're is James? I told my father what happened and showed him James,and the dragon's tooth." You should have stayed in the village.""we were fine till the dragon showed up.""well,there's nothing we can do about it now.""sir we found five dragons in the valley."said one of the guards."take one hundred strong and and kill those dragons."said my father."yes sir.""father,may I go,I've already killed a dragon by myself?""Fine,but be careful.""yes father." I followed the guards to a peak at the valleys edge."where are the dragons?"I asked."they are coming this way."said the captain."I heard about what happened to your friend,I'm sorry. I wish I had been there to help.""I don't understand why it was James instead of me.""dragons are wise creatures never underestimate them." Then a scout cried "Dragons! I looked over and there they were,fifty feet of big,fire breathing monster and there were five of them." Get ready!"cried the captain."NOW!". We all jumped and landed on the dragons backs."ATTACK!". We all stabbed our swords into the back of the beast and brought it to the ground. By the time we got it down,the other four had realized that we were there. We had lost our element of surprise and were in the open,no cover to hide behind. There started to pick us off one by one." ACHERS!AIM FOR THERE HEADS!"said the captain." Sir our archers are dead."" Then on my command,head for our escape tunnel. ONE! TWO! THREE! RUN FOR IT!" Cried the captain, but the beasts follow and killed us till we reached the tunnel."head count."said the captain."five including the new kid."the captains face turned pale."that means we are all that's left of the dragon guards."said the captain."but what about the reserves? All those men,aren't there thousands?"I ask."that was destroyed years ago?" When we returned to the village, the captain told the chief what happened and that they would have to go back into the deep mines to be safe."have the supplies loaded and get everyone to the shelters,we might have to be down there for years and if so we must be prepared."said the chief."father,is there any other way,do we have to go back to the mines? Can't we travel to Fort Wilhelm?""it would take too long to get there and the dragons would easily find us,our only option is to get to the mines." As we prepared to go back to the mines mike and I went to my house to pack." There's got to be another way,I know that there is another way,mike.""there isn't another way,the only other way is impossible."" What other way?"" The Dragon Stone."said mike."what's that?"" Years ago,your father and his brother went to Dragon Mountain. They found a stone in the shape of a dragon. Your uncle took the stone off of its ledge,and a dragon attacked them. The legend is that when the stone is placed back were it belongs, the dragons will return to the mountain."said mike."I replied,"on the ledge?"" No,on the top of MT Dragon."said Mike."as I said before,it's impossible."" Nothing is impossible,I'm going to get the stone and return it to its place." As we set out for the mines,I asked my father about the stone."that stone is the one you wear on your necklace my boy.""so if it were returned to its place,so would the dragons?"I asked."possibly."said my father."but don't you dare go up there and try." But I have already started for the mountain."HONDOR!!!" My father cried has he watched me run toward the mountain. I kept running till I was out of sight."I had the answer the hole time and I didn't even know it?! Why didn't I know about this stone sooner?"I ask my self as I climbed the mountain."
