Secrets Chapter One: New House The old rotting maple wood door swung open and a huge dust cloud exploded from the musty house. I coughed and waved my hand in front of my face to try and breath a little easier. I flung my bags inside and ran my fingers along the wall to find the switch. My fingers ran over the cool metal as I flipped the small switch up; no lights came on. "Great." I groaned and trudged inside. I looked around and saw the spider webs clinging to the plastic and dust covered furniture. My footprints stayed in a neat trail behind me. I began to explore the vacant rooms. I entered the kitchen and looked at the peeling pale blue walls. A dirty stained island sat in the middle of the room, some dusty and rotting wooden chairs around it. I cringed as a rat scurried by leaving fresh prints in the dust across the floor. "Eww." I said and leaned over to turn on a vintage lamp and fan. Neither worked. I rolled my eyes and searched for the bedroom or cleaning closet. I found the bedroom first. An ancient bed frame stood alone on the moldy shag carpet; the walls had no mirrors or old pictures like the rest of the house, the plum colored walls looked so bare. I shrugged, took a deep breath and walked out of the room. Across the long hallway was the cleaning closet, I tried the handle and found it to be locked. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the large brass skeleton key that the former landlord had given to me. I twisted the key and pulled the heavy door open to smell an even mustier smell. I dug through the old mops and buckets looking for a fan of some sort. My fingers caught the lock of a smallish box. I tried the skeleton key in the lock an found that it didn't open. I pulled out another key to find that that didn't work either. I pulled the box out of the closet and set it on the floor. I had other things to be interested in at the moment.
