What Is In A Name? Usually when I have to explain away my habit of walking into door frames, I tell people I'm dyspraxic. After clarifying that no, I did not mean dyslexic, I am asked to explain what dyspraxia is. So what IS dyspraxia? Well, I say, my brain is told something which it then transmits incorrectly. Im like badly programmed software- I'll give it a go, but the results ain't pretty. Traits So what are the traits? Well, poor balance for one. How many dyspraxics can ride a bike? I for one couldn't stay on even if my #life depended on it. Our posture is terrible to boot. What about hand eye coordination? Remember the kid who could never hit to ball in baseball no matter what? Probably dyspraxic. Fine motor skills? Non existent! Cooking is a pain ( and usually painful) musical instruments are a no go and makeup is a cruelty thrust upon us by society. We have difficulty tracking objects with our eyes ( how did we survive humanities hunter gatherer phase?!). The problems with light, noise and material aspies have? Us too! We also have memories comparable to goldfish, organisational skills of the nutty professor and the concentration span of a four year old after a sugar binge. Of course, no one has all these traits- some have the exact opposite! Yet with all that complexity and shading, all I say is ' It just means I'm a little clumsy'
