Beauty Fumbling for his pipe in his small, cramped cabinet drawer, his fingers stumbled upon a treasure. He traced his thumb along the spine of this metal object and, pinching it, pulled it from the darkness. With one hand stroking his matted grey beard, and the other cradling the sparkling silver chain, he stared. He gazed at its beauty, and the way the light reflected magnificently off of its glistening body. It was a necklace and hanging from its base a diamond penchant. It catapulted a fierce rainbow beam across the room as he raised it up to his face. It was beautiful. Perfect. The facets sprayed an aurora about every single corner of the room and as it span slowly between his fingers, so too did the beautiful auroras, casting an energising radiance that left no object untouched. The penchant began to spin faster and faster. With a mind of its own it began to swing. Left. Right. Left. Right. Uncontrollably it leaped from his hand and began to dance around on the floor. Its ecstatic nature striking fear at the heart of the decrepit man. He fell back onto his chair, striking his tobacco tray asunder. And as quickly as it all started, it stopped with all of its energy discharged and dissipating around the dank room. From the diamond a single red light shone forth. It rested on his chest, above his terrified heart, and pulled him forward. He was clasped by the warm beam and was no longer afraid. A gentle drone kissed his ears and face as when his wife once held him so dearly. A tear fell from his eye and rested on his cheek. He was raised from the ground and cradled as a mother would her child. No words were spoken, but he could feel her. He could feel the love that he had so dearly missed. He experienced the world around him quicken to a blur, spinning and warping. His gaze was transfixed on the diamond's beauty as it began to grow. He was absorbed by its glittering light and was gradually lulled towards it. He felt as though his long past lover was gently grasping his hands. He felt a palm on his cheek. Soft, silky, aged. As he neared the end of the lit path he surrendered himself to the judgement of the beautiful gem, his wife. "I'm coming, Adelaide. I'm coming..." he sighed, tearful with joy and release.
