Hunger Games Fanfic Pt. 4 I am asleep in the cold Cornucopia when I hear a scream. Connor! My eyes fly open and I dash out, not caring about any dangers that await me. Connor is out in the water. He must have been collecting clams. He has a knife lodged in his chest, but whoever attacked him took off. Tears fill my eyes as I splash toward him. "There's nothing you can do, Melodie," he says in a strained voice. I start sobbing and I take his hand. "Don't leave me," I stutter between sobs. "You are an amazing friend, Melodie," he says and presses something into my hand. Then he doesn't have enough strength to keep his head above the water. He gives in and lets himself drown. I stay there, crying, with him for hours. Why Connor? I keep thinking. And who did it? I want revenge. Gradually, my despair turns to a blazing anger toward this person who has killed my best friend. I remember Connor's final action of giving me something. I open my curled fingers. It's a beautiful seashell. My eyes tear up at this last gesture. This makes me determined. His death will not go without consequences. I will find this person and make them pay. But for now, I am overcome by grief. I crawl into the Cornucopia and curl myself into a ball. Tears will not come, I've cried myself out. Soon, I have fallen asleep.
