Short Story A Month; February Hello all, this is my second short story in my quest to write one small story each month for a year. I would consider this to be a significantly shorter story than my first, but considering its underlying theme and the message I wanted to convey I felt it didn't need much more than that. This is for you Harriet... 12 weeks today. It had been well over two years since he had asked for her hand in marriage and now here she was, stood in front of the chapel where she would finally give herself to him. In the warm air she lingered in this moment, drinking in the sights, sounds and smells she was sure she would remember for the rest of her #life. The intricate Grecian mosaic on the floor framed the petite chapel and the trees and rocky landscape that surrounded it, the willow swaying lightly in the sea-born breeze. The chapel itself was in some ways a burst of colour and beauty that laid before the bay of amazing blue, contrasting with the tan and sand colours of the dirt road that led up to it. The bride-to-be beamed from ear to ear, following her fiancé and the wedding planner in a tour of the venue of their ceremony a week to the day. Neither her or her partner were particularly religious, but she had always dreamt of her perfect wedding (much like most women) and seeing the chapel in person now confirmed to her that getting married abroad had been the right choice. "Would you two like some time alone to enjoy the chapel and it's surroundings?" asked the planner, smiling knowingly at the smitten couple as they were truly amazed at their venue. "Yes thanks, we'll meet you at the bottom of the hill when we're done if that's okay with you?" As the planner walked back down the path from the chapel, the woman took a second to capture the moment in her mind. Even the photos on the Internet couldn't give her a good grasp of just how amazing everything looked. "What do you think?" asked her fiancé. "...It's amazing." she replied after she realised she was being spoken to. "I know." he said, looking around again and taking in the sights. The blossom of the trees scattered across the floor and their sweet fragrance entered his nostrils as the leaves rustled quietly in the background. The brilliant white of the chapel walls, freshly painted, heavily contrasted the clear blue sky, holding the hopes of the two young lovers. Their eyes left their surroundings and fixed on each other again, their smiles widening as they came together in a lingering embrace as they realised how close they were to being wed. "I can't wait to be yours... for real." her partner said. She laughed at the phrase, and then they kissed, lingering as the sun warmed their skin. "Me too, honey." she said, looking lovingly into his blue eyes. One week... and then the rest of their lives.
