Apple Bars 2 1/2 cups Flour 1 Tbsp Sugar 1 tsp. Salt 1 cup Margarine 2/3 cup. Milk or 6-8 tbsps of milk. 1 egg. Separated Filling: 1 quart sliced apples 1/2 cup Sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 tbsps butter 1 1/2 - 2 tbsps. cornstarch or flour Directions: Cut sugar, flour, salt and margarine together as for pie crust. Beat well, milk plus egg yolk, and add to crumbs, 1 tablespoon at a time. Roll out half of dough to fit greased jelly roll pan, about 10 by 15 inches. Prepare filling by blending together apples, sugar and cinnamon. Spread this over crust and dot with 2 tablespoons of butter. Roll out top crust and put on filling. Prick with fork. Brush top with egg white and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 40 minutes or until light brown.
