True Adventure *true event* It has been hours since we left town, still driving far and fast. We hadn't seen a car or any kind of civilization for one or two hours. It wasn't surprising it was night time and we were a good few hours away from any kind of well.. Anything. The night sky and stars were as beautiful as I had ever seen then and the#moonlit up the road well enough to drive without headlights should we so want to, however too many wild animals roam around here for us to do it. After all this is the outback. Every now and then we'd swirl to avoid hitting an animal, at least it kept the driver wide awake from the adrenalin rush. Finally the first sign of #life for a very long time, a dark truck-stop and gas station. The station is closed, we check our fuel. Two thirds left, I'm amazed how far we've gotten since our last stop for gas. We decide to carry on despite the warning sign that reads "No gas for 300km" It's a long way but we can make it. After a while the road forks, it reminds me of a cartoon left looks perfectly safe and right the complete opposite, our map says right. Right we went. It does not take long for the condition of the road to worsen and soon the asphalt is replaced by dirt road. Suddenly without warning the road ends in almost like a quarry, floods have washed away a big part of the road and our car skids across the stones with sparks flying from underneath the car. We all decide that we are not going across that again unless we have to, thirty minutes if the road doesn't change for the better we turn. After a while the road started to improve however our joy was short lived when fourth minutes later the road ends in a black river. We have wasted a portion of gas and almost two hours driving getting here going back the way we came isn't something any of us would want. We decide to check how deep it is maybe just maybe can we drive across it. It's a slim chance but we'll take it! One of us volunteers, he takes one step in to the water and falls on his ass, okey other then his pride he goes again with the same result. We are all laughing hysterically and it's such a surreal feeling being hours away from anything at all under a perfect night sky trying to cross a river. I decide to try, no problems I work my way across. I've come about half when a thought strikes me and I nervously ask my friends who are watching me, not sure I want an answer I shout to them " guys! Arn't there crocodiles here?" They all start kicking around and giving me unconfirming noises, the ones you make when you don't want to tell someone something. Standing knee deep in the pitch black river I decide to myself.. Fuck this!! Running as fast as I am able without falling and being swept away by the strong current, safe back at the car! All we can do is turn and head back. Once again back at the fork in the road and the adventure continues. One thing disturbs me... We are down at quarter tank, how? Fuel gage is broken, three-quarter tank is actually half and there are no town close by. I guess either we make it or we don't nothing will be open for a good few hours anyway I say and then lay down to sleep in the backseat. I hope this adventure never ends I think to myself as a drift of to sleep, and then the tires screech and a kangaroo dies. ------------------- The beginning of one of the adventures me and my old and newfound friends had traveling Australia and a completely true story! We did make it in to town by the skin of our necks the day after and the kangaroo which got hit by our car was put down by a Canadian with a big rock. And then the adventure continued! Hope you all enjoyed it I sure had a great time living it crocodiles and all!
