Are you going after your dreams and aspirations in #life? This article is designed to help you understand why most people fail to pursue their dreams and how you can avoid these pitfalls. Most People Prepare to Lose “You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.” – Zig Ziglar There’s an old saying that goes… “Prior Preparation Produces Peak Performance.” Many call it the 5 P’s. Most people fail to prepare for what comes in front of them. Most people treat their goals and challenges in #life as they should be entitled to achieving them. If you want to actually reach your goals, prepare to reach them. Work it like a system. Figure out what you want in your #life and then work backwards in figuring out what the steps are necessary in order to reach them. There are usually a few key areas that you have to be good at in order to be good at anything. Sit down, write out what the core areas are that you need to be good at and then put together a plan to start systematically becoming good in each one of those areas. Never Give Up on Your Dreams And if you aren’t sure what they are, ask others around you. Many times, others around you will have a clearer and more objective perspective of what needs to happen in order for you to achieve your goals. My biggest suggestion here is to join a mastermind group. Mastermind groups are groups of people who get together once every week or so to share resources in helping each other reach their goals. If you don’t know how to start one or what this entails, you can join online masterminds or in person ones. A program that I’m involved in is called Project U and you can get more information at their website http://projectu.net. Decide today that you’re going to play to win. Put together a plan and stack all of the odds in your favor. Setup your #life so that it is as easy as possible to be successful. They Run from Pain and Failure “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill Most people would do anything to not feel pain. Most people run from it like it is going to ruin their lives forever. And it isn’t really all that surprising. Our society is designed to make us the victim of our lives. Screw that. That’s right… you heard it heard here first. Screw anyone and anything that tells you that pain and adversity is going to ruin your #life. There’s two ways you can look at pain and adversity. You can either look at them as if they are going to destroy your #life or you can look at them as if they are strengthening and empowering you. That’s it. It is only through adversity that we become stronger, build our character, and develop our personalities into becoming more prepared for our futures. If you pay attention, adversity will teach you #life lessons that you can’t get from anywhere else. You can’t get this from the classroom. You can’t get this from someone lecturing you or telling you what you need to do in your #life. You need to fall down. You need to hurt yourself. You need to take chances and risks of failing and you need to fail. It is only through failing over and over again that you’re learn the most important lessons in your #life. Go after what you want in your #life and be willing to fail over and over again. Be willing to get hurt. They’re Expecting to Fail Have you ever heard someone say: “If I didn’t have bad lack I wouldn’t have any luck at all” Many people give up on their dreams because they expect that they’re going to fail and that the failure is the end of the road. The point isn’t to fail just to fail. That falls under the category of insanity. T. Harv Ecker has a saying that goes, “How you do anything is how you do everything.” I think this applies here. The point of allowing yourself to fail is so that you can learn and figure out what doesn’t work in order to get closer to what does work. If you start out with the attitude that you’re just going to fail anyway, you’re not going to learn anything from your experiences. And you may just give up before you even really get started. Look for successes no matter how small they are. Make your own luck by working hard and moving towards your dreams. Many of us are trained to find failure in our lives. Decide today that you’re going to look for success. They Aren’t Willing to Put in the Effort I have a particular relative that doesn’t seem to ever want to create much in his #life. There’s nothing wrong with that other than the fact that he gets into something for short periods of time… only long enough to almost make it successful before he quits. Atleast he’s tried… which is more than what most people do. But sometimes, he won’t he make the first attempt. I hear a lot of “it’s too much hassle” comments from it. Anything worth doing well is worth doing poorly at first. If you want to create amazing things in your #life, you’re going to have to put in the effort to create it for yourself. Unless you have some remarkable connections, you’re not going to be able to just show up somewhere and have everything put together for you. Although, truly, showing up is more than what most people do. If you think its too much of a hassle to get your #life together, just think about how much of a hassle its going to be for you 20 years down the line when you’re still in the same spot with the same shitty habits and #lifestyle setup. If its too much of a hassle to get your eating habits together, imagine how much of a hassle its going to be to do it after you’ve spent decades living that way and are stuck with some horrible disease or illness because of it. Just do it. Make it happen. Put in the work. Take hold of the opportunities in your #life right now. 20 years from now… looking back at this day, if you don’t take action and put in the work, what do you think you would give up to come back to this day and decide to take the risk and put in the effort necessary to make your dreams happen? Take hold of this moment and make a decision that you’re going to do whatever is necessary to make your #life happen. They Don’t Use a System You don’t need to recreate the wheel. And even if you do, take what works and make a system for recreating it over and over again. Look online for people who teach about whatever it is that you do. Many times there’s someone who has already figured out what you need to do to be successful and they’ve put together a step-by-step game plan that will show you exactly how to recreate their success. Utilize this. Many times we’ll try to prevent ourselves from using systems because we think that systems are going to limit our creativity. If you’re in this situation, try letting go of this thought and working inside of a structured environment. Many times we can become more creative if we put a little structure around our creativity. Some of the most successful people in the world develop systems in order to make certain of the success in their businesses and in their lives. One huge example of this is McDonald’s. Regardless of what you think of their food, McDonald’s has amazing systems put together that allow nearly anyone from on the street to get a job at McDonald’s tomorrow and be successful at it. Create systems around the things that you do so that you can spend less time thinking about what needs to be done and more time doing the things that are going to get you the most out of your #life and your work. They Don’t Change Their Habits Stephen Covey came out with a book a while ago called, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” He created a revolution in the way that we look at how our lives are designed. The fact is that almost all of #life is based around habits. If something that you’re doing isn’t a habit of yours, then it isn’t very long lived. If you are serious about creating anything in your #life, you need to create habits around it. You need to create habits around your health, physical fitness, mental states, relationships, etc. The more you deliberately look at and design what types of habits you have in your #life, the easier it will be for you to enjoy each of these areas and get the most out of them. If you don’t change your habits and you don’t deliberately select and design how you are going to ritualistically behave and act, you are almost certainly designed for failure. If it is worth doing, it is worth creating a habit around. If you get into the habit of deliberately creating your habits, it could be one of the most valuable things you ever do for your #life. And if you really want to make something a habit, either schedule it or do it first thing in the morning. In the mornings, we have more willpower than we do any other time of the day. Throughout the day, as you have to say “no” to bad foods and temptations, you willpower gets drained. Also, if you schedule something and say to yourself, “No matter what, at this time every day, I will drop everything and do this,” you are much more likely to do it. I do this for exercise. I fight mixed martial arts and apparently MMA fighters are big into waking up early and exercising. So, I decide that every Tuesday and Thursday, at 5pm, I will drop everything, almost no matter what I’m doing, and go fight. And this has worked out very well for me. Schedule and create habits around the most important things in your #life. Because if it isn’t a habit, it won’t get done. They’re Focused on the Wrong Things in Their #life We live in the age of distraction. Everything is distracting you away from focusing on the most important things in your #life. Most people don’t follow their dreams because they’re too busy being distracted by the unimportant things in their lives to go after what is most important to them. I know this sounds ridiculous because it is. You would think that we would just naturally do what is most important to us in our lives. But society, our friends, our families, school, and hundreds of other sources are telling us who we should be, what we should do, and what should be most important to us in our lives. And it’s easy to get caught up in such things. I mean, if everyone is telling you that you should do something, it would probably make sense that you should do it… right? Wrong. How are you going to live fulfilled, how are you going to live with passion, how are you going to experience happiness if you’re living based on what someone else values in their lives? There’s nothing wrong with shifting your focus off of yourself and on to other people. In fact, I think you’ll find that your #life is infinitely more valuable that way. But when you do it, do it with something that you care about. Do it with something that is important to you. You’ll be so much more inspired and so much more driven to do something because it is deeply important to you than you ever will doing something because others think you should do it. Make a decision, right now, that you are going to go after what is most important to you in your #life. Get rid of all the distractions and anything that is preventing you from it.
