The Evil Friend
Chapter 1:
Mr Robson spoke in his dreary voice that normally sent me to sleep within seconds, but not this time. This time, the air seemed to run with electricity and for some reason everyone, apart from Mr Robson, knew that something was about to happen. Boys seemed to be clinging onto every last word he said. This had NEVER happened before.
Mr Robson was halfway through a word when there was a crackling sound. The world seemed to hold it's breath, I certainly did. Then reception started speaking.
"A new child is about to have a look around the classroom, he will hopefully decide to join the school and this will be his class," then another crackle, and all was quiet.
Mr Robson broke this silence, speaking excitedly, a new achievement for him.
"okay boys, you know the standard we expect, exemplary, and put that down Clark! As I was saying, exemplary behaviour."
He didn't need to say anymore, in less than 20 seconds, everything was packed away. I had an uneasy feeling about the guest.
Even Mr Robson got bored after a while, getting on and marking our work. The clock seemed to slow down and I listened to the steady rythem: Tick-Tock-Tick-Tock-Tick-CRACK! What was that? Mr Robson seemed to notice too, but instead of immediately thinking it was the new boy, he walk straight over to Clark and confiscated the ruler, a few boys sniggered. Then we were back to our endless waiting. Finally, the intercom crackled again and two words spluttered out: "They're here."
Mr Robson straightened his tie and glared around the room, daring anyone to step out of line. I looked around, nobody seemed to want to. The Door handle creaked and in came a tanned young boy who seemed to spread an aura of power an authority. At first glance, I didn't like this boy, but everyone else seemed enthralled. When I looked at his mum, she seemed tired, and I liked him even less.
It was like the opposite of love first sight moment. When our eyes met I knew that he could see that I hated him, so he hated me in return. He squinted at me evilly and then he was elsewhere, completely ignoring me. My mouth dropped open and I quickly shut it. I closed my eyes in frustration and waited for him to leave. Eventually he did so and the room seemed lighter.
When the bell rang, all anyone was talking about was Emango. Even rhe teachers! Why where the so entranced? I had to figure it out!
Chapter 2:
I had completely forgotten about Emango so, when I entered the school the next term and saw a new boy, I didn't know who it was at first. Then he gave me a fierce gaze, and I automatically knew who it was. Emango Darke. I probably should have guessed, since everyone was fussing over him. Even Ben! I should probably explain who Ben is. He is my best friend and his last name is Blind, Ben Blind. So, there he was, acting as if Emango was the only person in the world. At least the teacher- WHAT! Mr Robson too? C'mon!!!
The next day, I walked into class late, about to take my seat next to Ben, when, to my surprise, I found someone already sitting there. Emango Darke. I had to sit somewhere else. What was wrong?
At break I went over to play with Ben, but Emango was already there, playing with my best friend, Ben. The link between me and Ben was broken, Emango had broken it. Frustration welled up inside me and I ran of, foul words coming out of my mouth. That was all I could think about all day, Emango was taking over my #life! At the end of the day, I went and sat on my Island. It was little more of a small hill in a lake really, but it was mine, as I had found it. I was thinking about how miserable #life was so intently that I almost didn't notice the bubbles. Almost. They started slowly at first, but speed up quickly. Then the water started to boil. What was happening?
I almost cringed away in fear as the water continued to boil. Faster and faster, then faster still. Suddenly, something touched the surface of the water and waves almost submerged me. I leaned forward to see what it was. It was an island, but redder than the surface of Mars. It was not a good island. Suddenly, my face was wrenched back. I screamed. I was looking into the crusted sick coloured eyes of a giant bat. It looked like it was about to rip my jaw off. It didn't have to, my mouth was practically hanging of all by itself. I was speechless. It pulled something out of a tuft of it's midnight coloured fur. Maybe it was an amputator, or a knife. Then I saw it was a blue drink. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. A poison?
It poured it into my mouth. I gagged. It tasted foul. I tried to spit it out. It roared in frustration. I quickly swallowed it back up, I didn't like the look of those fangs. Better poisoned than ripped limb from limb. I closed my eyes and waited for certain death. My skin began to tingle and itch. The effects of the poison. Then, all of a sudden it stopped, in fact, it did more than stop, I felt great, and what's more, I could understand their feral language.
"Concentrate on the island" it said.
I looked back at it. More of the island had appeared and was almost the size if mine.
Suddenly, a figure appeared on the horizon flanked by some winged creatures. I almost called out to the person and choked on my breath. It was Emango Darke! I looked behind me. Some blue gooey lines seemed to be detaching from my monster and forming into a ball. What was it creating?
I turned back and looked at Emango and yelped in happiness as I saw a copy of my new friend flying at Emango. Maybe a twin? I first noticed that something was wrong when it didn't stop and attack Emango as expected, but kept flying towards me. As it swooped down, mine growled and I turned to look at it and it's teeth were bared. The blue ball of light seemed to be generating faster. When I turned back, the monster had a stone in it's hind claws and was heading straight at me. At this point, I could still see nothing wrong, then I saw the red. It's eyes were crimson and looked like blood with a black stretched oval in the middle. It did not look happy. Now I could hear a whirring sound and was almost 100% sure that the ball was going faster than before. My monster gave a warning growl and I turned round, just before the rock hit me and then- Blank...
Chapter 3
I opened my bleary eyes and felt the welt on my forehead. I winced. It hurt allot, and was very big. I looked around. Is was in what looked like a lab with White-washed Walls. It looked unfriendly and cold. In fact, the section I was chained up to looked more like a torture chamber. I shivered. There was a scuffling from the only opening. The chimney. Emango dropped down and wiped his knees. He looked up at me. For a second he looked childish, then his eyes seemed to change colour and he regained his usual composure and seriousness. Emango cackled and went over to check his vials. All of a sudden, there was a whooshing sound that steadily got louder. Suddenly, the blue ball streamed down the chimney and headed straight for me, I coward away from it. Then it hit me. Pain echoed through my body and I wretched, counteracted by a feeling of power and heeling. The welt on my head receded and my various scrapes and cuts disappeared. The roof suddenly started to get closer. Spikes poked through, either I was getting bigger or the room was getting smaller. Emango was blissfuly unaware of all this. I knew I was going to die if I didn't get my chains of. I tensed my muscles and started seeding through them with the blue light I had no idea about having. After what seemed like an age, I finally managed it and made a run for it. But as I watched, I could see that Emango was going to die. I couldn't let that happen. But I wasn't going to make it. The spikes were inches away from Emango's head. Then I realised I could. I bent the spikes in my head mentally and the really bent. I almost laughed, pranced, and clapped for joy, but for the seriousness of the situation. I had just finished bending them when one hit a glancing blow to Emango's head and he fell unconscious to the floor. I tan over and scooped him up, then charged out and climbed up the window it was hard going, but I eventually made it up. I was faced with Emango's army of monsters. I stared up at them, dumbstruck, how? Was this the end? Would I die here and now? No, I decided, I won't. Grabbing Emango I presented him to them and ran away with him, using him as a human shield. I ran across to my island and flew across, then, using my super strength, through him back across, some of the monsters charged towards his unconscious body and grabbed him just before he hit the ground. I was greeted with the applause of my gang of followers. I didn't care what the future held, this was good enough for me.
End of part one.
