Fire Inside-Chapter 3 I slowly walked down the hallway. This was a lot to take in. I spent my time until five o'clock burning through stationary from the desk in the hallway. I was afraid I was gonna act out at dinner and melt the silverware. I opened the two tall double doors that lead into the dining room. I looked about the room. Tall ceilings, a glass chandelier, pristine white tablecloths laid across a mahogany dining table. Sitting at the table were two boys, a girl, and Gerald. I guessed the girl was Claire, but couldn't tell which boy was John or Rocco. Gerald cleared his throat. "Children, introduce yourselves." The girl stood. "I'm Claire. Water-mutant." I watched, fascinated, as she called to the water in her glass. The water came out in a tall stream, then wiggled into letters in the air. "Nice to meet you." The water letters said. Then she threw her hands up in the air, and the water went with it. The water exploded into tiny white specks as it hit the ceiling. Snow. The snow gently fell all over the room, it was really quite beautiful. Before it hit the ground, though, she whistled and the water flew right back into her cup. "Wow." I said, amazed. She giggled. She must have been about 12. "I've had lots of time to practice." She sat back down just as a boy with curly black hair stood up. "I'm Rocco. Earth- mutant." I noticed that Claire's eyes were blue, the color of the deepest ocean, and that Rocco's were the color of stone. He pulled the small pebbles from the vase on the table into the air, and formed them into a wars raging, children crying, and lots of other sad things. I couldn't take it."Stop! Stop, please!" Rocco looked terrified. He gently placed the rocks back in the vase. I still had tears running down my face."I'm sorry, usually it doesn't take that much of an effect on people." He clenched his jaw and sat back down. "Why did you show me that?" I was breaking heavily from the toll it took on me. "The mural shows a different picture to anyone who sees it." He calmly told me. "Why don't we just eat?" I turned and saw the voice that spoke. John unfolded his napkin and placed it on his lap. "What powers do you have?" I looked deep into the green of his eyes, wondering what they meant. He stood and pulled a beautiful wreath of flowers out of mid-air. It was full of violets and daisies and lilies, my three favorite flowers. He placed the wreath on my head, and whispered,"Plant-Mutant." I smiled for the first time I came to this place. I sat at the table across from Rocco. He still looked ashamed that he showed me that mural. "Why don't you show them your powers?" Gerald looked at me with sad eyes. "Uh, okay." I didn't know how to show my powers without burning the place to the ground. Then, an idea hit me. I concentrated on the characteristics of fire, the temperature, the movement, the light. I felt my inner fire flow through my veins and into my hands. I held two blue fireballs in each hand. I threw one up into the air and quickly made another one. I started to juggle fire! Then I realized I couldn't let them drop or the place would be a goner. So I did the first thing I thought of. I threw them into my mouth and swallowed them. beautiful moving mural in mid-air. I saw
