Mother Said Why did it have to go this far, before I knew better Momma thought I was underneath the sunshine When I’m really underneath the umbrella Locked up in a cage hiding from this harsh weather Why didn’t I listen to momma when she was telling me That I shouldn’t be on the streets and It isn’t a place where a black boys are supposed to be Why didn’t I see, what momma was telling me I learnt first hand by the jakes Thrown up in the cell where the rattles couldn’t shake Where your bed is mere stone and The acoustics are so poor not even the heavens could hear you moan Where you feel so alone, you talk too yourself and when conversations done along with your insanity you lose yourself You cant control yourself, with all the emotions raging through You’ll never forget the last few moments you had before they found you and you think I shoulda, woulda, coulda did this, Then I wouldn’t be the one drowning in this abyss When people give you advice I suggest you take it and Apply it to your situation, you never know they might be the few last words You hear before they give you a new occupation So when I got out of the cell Momma Said I hope you learned your lesson jahmel and I promised her I would never be misguided by the wishing well If stupidity was a drug I know it would sell Id be the only one too dwell in the fumes Misguided and attracted to her well smelling perfume I would’ve inhaled so much until I couldn’t consume anymore then I would’ve been another victim knock knocking On heavens door

Renaissance Of A Great Man It’s a Sunday Aunty Marcia’s in the kitchen portions out the food to share Uncle Lesley passes out the supermalts While Dante and Cory running left right and centre And granddads in the corner shouting, “Mind mi foot” In his chair, While we trademark him on the jet black Afro and the crown glasses he wears It was our granddad that provided the foundation for the fruits that our family tree bares, The founder, the father, the foundation, the creator, the cause his creation That was our granddad and no one could step in the shoes that he wears On his 82 years of walking with #life he leaves behind a legacy 1 Wife, 8 Kids, 22 grand kids, 11 great grand kids and more to be His not here physically but here spiritually and that’s not for the eyes to see Remember him for the great man who he is and not for the few things he didn’t seem to be The renaissance of a fallen man, who looks over us within a sanctuary May his name be carved in gold, because the value of #life is what we cherish so dearly He touched too many hearts to name, I look around the room its clear too see That granddad did more for us as a family, a friend a brother than he did just too me I remember when I heard nanny cry I remember how much it hurt when I had to ask her the reason why I remember when I saw Selina dropped down and barl I remember seeing my mom cry so much she mispronounced my name and called me Jamal Were all still mourning so don’t worry Theirs no rush to forget granddad so don’t hurry Cherish every memory, reminisce on every moment For that is the potent treasure that remains so important Which nobody can take away unless you choice to forget and remain astray Unfortunately he is gone and it has remain this way.
