You’re Supposed to be My Enemy, But You’re the Only One Near to Me

A peaceful slumber is so close,
Yet so far away
Bitterness nibbles at the fray
Of a mind twisted to distorted knots
Somewhat familiar, is it not?
There’s a friend lingering in the shadows of my mind
I wish I had the courage to embrace him this time
He fills my heart with the most serene fear I’ve ever known
But unfortunately, he chills most to the bone
Others seek to avoid this man they do not know
They swear to the highest heavens he’s a foe
But they’ve only met him in passing
His silent presence is rather dashing
There’s something sensual in his cold embrace
On everyone’s tongue is the name without a face
I could write him love letters all day,
But I hate how he hurts loved ones in such untimely ways
Still, I hope his cold touch will rock me to sleep one day

Don't Paint Me Like The Good Guy 'Cause Everytime I Write I Get To Choose The Angle You View Me And Select The Nicest Light No, ladies and gentlemen, This is not the face of a girl who saw a long relationship coming to an end, And when it finally did, She lost the last straw of her sanity Suddenly snapped and found herself crying in the most public place in the most private way, And no, this isn't the face of someone who was shoved into bed With a man she knew for years, His hand gripping the back of her skull Like the hand of God's wrath And no, this isn't the face of someone who had made a conscious decision to love, Knowing the risks And the condom broke, Or a pill was missed No, it isn't that kind of face You see, ladies and gentlemen This is the face of involuntary manslaughter, This is the face of someone who's wept for their self for years on end Selfishly slitting wrists, thighs, Wet warm eyes, This is the face of a killer who grieved with the beloved The police were baffled, But he died of loneliness and a broken heart, Because of me So you see, ladies and gentlemen, I wouldn't mind a long-term relationship turned sour, The betrayal of someone I thought I knew, Violating me, Turning my dreams into relived bedside crime scenes, Or a drunken night, broken condom, missed pill, Because even those have the power to bring forth strength, Or even #life, But no No, ladies and gentlemen, this is the face of the worst of humanity, Someone who has it all, And knows nothing of where it came from, This is the face that killed a man by breaking his heart Now I sit here with stained hands and bitter tears, In a box of isolation, Out of more kindness of a stranger's heart, Selfishly praying for retribution, May I never receive absolution

Tripped, Freed Stuck staring at old faces Facing demons and small traces of a path I used to know so well A path I used to walk down But one day that path became my past And looking back, a sin Lord knows it's been some time since I've so much as felt a butterfly Looking at you You're like dancing to a song I once knew Ensnared in the bass of the drum Tangled up in the strong man's hum, But the notes don't fall quite right I used to pound the pavement to your beat, Nothing more than a young and foolish stomping of the feet I couldn't keep up Your rhythm was too much Until it wasn't enough

Does It Really Matter? Man, I wish my family was like tissues! Clinging to one another before we're plucked outta this box That we're trapped in But we're too busy taking each other for granted And taking advantage Of these screwed up situations we're placed in Plastered across billboards and windows Eyes peering into the soul I know this heart lies exposed As Watsky said, "Don't paint me like the good guy 'Cause everytime I write I get to choose the angle that you view me And select the nicest light" Who's to say I'm a victim? Maybe I'm one of them Maybe I was the first one to reach a pen
