A New Beginning…
Holding my breath, heart pumping at a hundred miles an hour, I board the bus for the first time.
Time seems to stop; sudden silence deafens me. All eyes seem to fix on me and I gulp a little nervously.
I scan across the rows of seats to find somewhere to sit. My eyes rest upon one at the back. Oh, gosh, don't tell me I have go all the way back there. Not past all those people.
"Get a move on, mate," says the bus driver gruffly. My cheeks flush as I finally start walking to the seat at the back.
Heads turn as I pass, probably thinking something along the lines of "what a loser"…
I eventually get to the seat and sit down, dumping my rucksack on the floor by my feet.
"Hi there," says a blonde girl sitting next to me. "New, then?"
I nod, blushing again.
"Don't worry, mate. I'm new too. Name's Grace, by the way," she smiles.
"I'm Will," I reply.
Hm, not as bad as I thought. A couple of people who obviously don't like me, but you'll find them wherever you go.
Me and Grace make light conversation on the way to school.
It's all lies, though. If I told her the truth she would definitely hate me - everyone would. This is my new beginning, but you can't leave the past behind just like that, can you?
But it's a start. Just building my new #life up, one bit at a time.
And it seems like Grace is one of the first pieces of the building blocks.
It's a new beginning, sure, but I can't help thinking about what happened…
"Are you okay, Will? You kind of spaced out," says Grace, bringing me back down to earth.
I smile. "Yeah, fine."
"Good," she replies. She seems like she's going to say something else, but hesitates at the last moment.
"What were you going to say?" I ask.
Attentively, she says, "I was just wondering if you were free tonight." She smiles weakly.
Hm, does she mean a date?!
"Uh, sure," I reply, dumbfounded. I mean, we only just met. We can hardly be girlfriend and boyfriend five minutes after meeting.
Can we?
Heading off the bus, I say goodbye to Grace.
"Bye, Will!" she beams, and leans in to kiss my cheek.
Woah. Moving a little fast.
She winks and heads of to the school gates.
Women… what fascinating creatures!
